It also states advantages of smart grids and microgrids such as increased efficiency, control and monitoring of variable demand, and the ability to operate independently of the main grid, amongst others.
  5. Geothermal (9.58 mins): This video discusses the use of geothermal energy, the heat in the Earth’s interior for electricity generation and other domestic purposes. It mentions the various regions in the world with high Geothermal reserves and potential sites for geothermal power generation in India.
  6. Solar Farms (9.35 mins): This video discusses the solar farms potential around the world. The video emphasises that investment in photovoltaic power generation is estimated to grow significantly along with the share from other renewable resources like wind and biofuel by the year 2050.
  7. Rooftop Solar (9.44 mins): This video discusses the rooftop solar power generation which constitutes 30% of the total solar power installations in the world. It also mentions that the demand for rooftop solar is estimated to grow exponentially by 2050 which shall help in reducing the overall energy price.
  8. Wave and Tidal Energy (7.33 mins): This video states the regions around the world with a high potential for wave and tidal generation. It mentions the upcoming innovations in wave and tidal energy industries such as efficient turbine designs and higher power output. The video also states that the share of ocean power generation is estimated to increase considerably by 2030.
  9. Concentrated Solar Power (7.38 mins): This video discusses power generation from concentrated solar absorbers, which convert the Solar energy into Heat, unlike the photovoltaics that convert light energy into current. The video explains how heat energy can be stored and then used to meet the variable energy demand with concentrated solar power.
  10. Biomass (5.40 mins): This video discusses the advantages and disadvantages of using Biomass as an alternate renewable source of energy. It mentions that biomass power plants need biodegradable feed like eucalyptus leaves which need to be grown in a separate area, which puts forth challenges like land use and biodiversity loss.
  11. Nuclear (8.55 mins): This video explains the use of nuclear power as an energy solution and the challenges involved in its implementation. It mentions the newer generations of nuclear reactors which are safer, efficient and lower in cost. It also mentions the challenges involved in setting up nuclear power plants like higher investment, high electricity cost, safety issues, public acceptance, and loss of surrounding biodiversity.
  12. Cogeneration (8.04 mins): This video describes the cogeneration technique as a solution to energy loss in traditional power generation systems. It explains how the cogeneration systems use the residual heat from thermal power plants for various applications in the electricity grid, thus reducing the load on the main generation unit resulting in considerable energy savings.
  13. Micro Wind (4.59 mins): This video discusses ‘Micro Wind’, which are small wind turbines that can be installed in residential areas on the top of buildings and roofs. It also mentions the advantages of using small wind turbines such as low-noise, optimum power output and the ability to serve the daily power requirement of an independent house in the building.
  14. Methane Digesters (8.13 mins): This video explains the use of methane digesters for biogas production as an energy source to meet the power requirements at a local scale. It also mentions the advantages of anaerobic digesters for certain developing countries such as energy security in remote areas and improved sanitation system at a local level.
  15. In Stream Hydro (5.38 mins): This video explains ‘In-Stream Hydro’ power plants which are small turbine systems that can be installed in areas with gravity driven water flow like canals, rivers and large pipelines and can serve as a power generation source at a local level. The video mentions the structure of an in stream hydro turbine generator and the challenges involved in its installation.
  16. Waste to Energy (6.38 mins): This video discusses converting solid waste into energy in a waste to energy plant. It mentions that this method is useful for island nations that face space shortage for waste disposal.
  17. Grid Flexibility (4.43 mins): This video states the methods that account for power grid flexibility through which the intermittency of renewables can be dealt with in an efficient manner. The video explains how various energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, and small hydro when merged together by ramping up the energy storage, can prove beneficial in meeting fluctuating energy demand.
  18. Utility Scale Energy Storage (12.36 mins): This video explains the importance of energy storage systems in the power grid. It mentions the various systems through which energy can be stored such as Batteries, Heat capturing, Mechanical Storage, Hydrogen storage, and Pumped Hydro amongst others. The video also mentions the benefits of energy storage using batteries and the expected innovations in the Li-ion battery, stationary battery designs, and storage capacities by 2030.
  19. Distributed Energy Storage (7.58 mins): This video explains the importance and advantages of energy storage through distributed systems or microgrids. It also mentions the estimated cost reduction in installed electricity storage systems by 2030 and the innovations in solar panel efficiency.
